Chasms Unveil a Shadowy New Single

Last night, I watched the classic cyberpunk anime film Ghost in the Shell for the first time. I was thoroughly transfixed by the brooding atmosphere created by the hyper-urban cityscapes and Kenji Kawai’s stunning score. Based on this new single, the music of Chasms could be a good accompaniment for walking the streets of New Port City alone in the dark.

Released by Felte Records, a label that is absolutely killing it this year (see the Deserta album and singles by Gold Cage), “Limits” immediately puts me into a noir world of shadowy skyscrapers and distant neon diner signs. The dub-like production, rich with delay, sends snares and pillowy guitar notes scattering like they’re ricocheting off brick walls in an alley. Jess Labrador’s vocals gently fall down like the pitter patter of rain, reflecting on a love that has been reduced to a fading lust.

Check out “Limits” below and purchase it here. I also recommend checking out the band’s 2016 album, On the Legs of Love Purified, which is a really enchanting fusion of airy ethereal wave with the gnarled textures of shoegaze and drone metal.
