We got so used to things moving fast. Life passing by, fleeting moment after fleeting moment, too busy and preoccupied to take the time to consider what’s worth holding onto. When things do slow down, you may come to realize that some things are best to let go of. Such are themes I pick up on the latest single from Psychic Markers.
“Baby, It’s Time” is a molasses-paced track that opens up with achingly slow guitar notes pulling themselves across like wispy clouds sailing in front of a setting sun. Alannah Ashworth stretches her gentle vocals out to match the pace before more guitars add tension while interlocked with zoned-out synth passages. The song calls to mind the majestic meandering of Yo La Tengo and Mojave 3 and as the closing track to the band’s upcoming album, it feels like the end credits to a coming-of-age movie set in the prairies with an ending marked by uncertainty in finality.
The band’s self-titled album arrives May 29th. Watch the video below and pre-order the record here.
